1st - 5th of February

Dear KG1 Parents,

We would like to say thank you to the parents that have taken our healthy food policy on board. The children have
been excited to announce which part of their snack is healthy each day. They have also begun to make connections
to how eating helps them live a balanced life. This week we will be learning about the letter /g/ which is a good
opportunity to promote eating lots of green fruit and vegetables. Please note all the important events on your
homeroom calendar as we have Parental Engagement Week, International Day and teachers have Professional
Development which means 2 Days of no school in February.

Our Unit of Inquiry How We Express Ourselves

Students have been discussing and learning about our central idea: Through play we express our feelings and
ideas to help us come to new understandings.
This week we will be working on our third line of inquiry Uses of games and toys (perspective) where children
will communicate their opinions about how they can play with materials. They will also look at the feelings
experienced through games and play and reflect on those experiences.

Language
We will focus on letter /g /this week.
Suggested vocabulary: garlic, grapes, goat, gorilla, games, garden, green, gum, girl, glasses.
Finding items around the house and garden by playing I-Spy is a fun way for children to make real life
connections to what they are learning. We will also be reading the story Three Billy Goats Gruff and retelling the
story. Then we will also look at non- verbal communication by watching a video of the story Good Night Gorilla
and then retelling the story.

Mathematics
In Math, we will be revising shape names and identifying the attributes of shapes by feeling and counting the
sides, corners and curves.

In Arabic this week we will continue to learn about the letter: seen. The will learn to recognize more
words related to this letter.

Please note the events on homeroom calendars. We will be having Parental engagement week from the 8 th-12th
of February. There will be more information communicating the details of the week soon. International Day is
on the 12th of February and is a very exciting day on the school calendar.
