Finished Dimensions ‐ 36” x 15 ½”
Materials
• ½ yard 72” wide felt – for calendar body
• ½ yard cotton fabric – for background on
calendar
• ½ yard cotton fabric – for pocket strips
• ¼ yard 72” wide felt or cotton fabric – for
scalloped edge banner across the top
• ¼ yard or fat quarter – for letters & title
• ½ yard no‐sew iron‐on adhesive, such as Heat
n’ Bond Ultrahold
• buttons, ribbon, scraps of felt/fabric
• rotary cutter & cutting mat
• long clear ruler – this is VERY helpful
• thread 2 & 3
• iron
• dowel rod, for hanging
• 1 yard of ribbon for hanging
Cutting
1. From the fabric for the pocket strips, cut four
3.5”x WOF (width of fabric) strips. They will be
long strips.
2. From the 3.5” x WOF strips, cut twelve 3.5” x
11.5 strips.
3. Place strips back to back, wrong sides facing.
Press once pairs are back to back with wrong
sides facing. This will help them stay together.
You will have 6 fabric pocket strips.
4. From the fabric for the background cut to 14” x
41”.
4
5. From the felt for the calendar body cut to 16” x 2 &
39”.
6. From the fabric/felt for the banner, cut a 5” x
18” strip.
7. Iron the background and felt. To iron felt, set
the iron to medium and place a piece of fabric
between the iron and the felt. Otherwise it may
melt the felt. You can just use the piece of
fabric for the background. Iron them both at
once!

Calendar Body
1. Place the background fabric on top of the felt,
centering from the sides. There will be some
overhang at the ends. Using an iron on medium
press the background fabric while it is on the
felt. This will help it stay nice and smooth
while you pin and sew. Pin the fabric in place.
Just a handful of pins will do.
2. If you have an over hang of the background
fabric over the felt, cut it so it is now even with
the felt.
3. Next sew the background fabric to the felt
using a straight stitch. Backstitch at the 1
beginning and end.
4. If you like, you can next sew a decorative stitch
over the straight stitch you just sewed. I did a
zig zag stitch.
5. Next fold under 1 ¾” of the top to the back. Pin.
This will be your casting for the hanging rod.
Sew in place.

Pocket Strips & Header
1. Sew two 3.5” x 11.5” together, wrong sides together. Sew using 3/8” seam allowance. Begin in one
of the bottom corners and go around the entire rectangle. Backstitching at the end. Repeat for the
rest of the pairs. The edges will be left raw.
2. Decide how you want the edges to be. You can either leave them how they are or trim the edges
with pinking shears. I like using pinking shears. Trim them back to ¼”. Repeat for all strips.
3. Trace letters and numbers to following the directions for your brand of iron‐on adhesive. Attach
following to the appropriate fabrics. Cut out letters and numbers. Leave backing on until you
ready to fuse to the fabrics.
4. On the back of the scalloped edge
banner material line up pattern so
the scallops are close to the bottom
of the strip. Begin tracing the
scalloped edge to the fabric. You will
need to pick up the pattern and
place it appropriately so you can go
the length of the strip. Cut out using
your tracing line as a guide. ONLY 5
TRACE ALONG THE SCALLOPED
EDGE. Do not cut your material to the size
of the pattern.
5. Fuse ‘be mine’ to the right side of the
scalloped edge banner. Sew a heart button 6
in place over the ‘i’ if desired. Pin banner in
place about 1 ¼” from the top of the
calendar.
6. Placement of strips. I eyeballed the
placement, only quickly checking that
nothing was too crooked or off center.
Adjust the placement of the banner if
needed.
a. 1st Pocket Strip ‐ 7 ½” from top of
calendar
b. Then, place strips roughly 1 ¼” apart.
Last pocket strip should be about 2”
from the bottom of the calendar.
c. Center strips on calendar about 2 ¼”
from edge of calendar.
d. Pin pocket strips in place.
Sewing on Pocket Strips & Finishing Touches
1. Once strips are pinned in place you will need to draw sewing lines from the top of the calendar to
the bottom. This will secure the pockets to the calendar. Use the photo below to help you draw
your sewing lines.
a. To draw line ‘A’ use a ruler
and place the edge on the
side seams of the pocket
strips. Begin drawing a line
just above the first pocket
strip and continue just
beyond the last pocket strip
of calendar. (You will trace
over the side seams of the
pocket strips.)
b. To draw line ‘B’ measure 3 1
5/8” from line A. Line up the
ruler straight and again draw
a line just beyond the last pocket strip of calendar.
c. Repeat last step for line ‘C’. This time measuring
3 5/8” from line B.
d. To draw line ‘D’ repeat step A, using the side
seams of the pocket strips as your guide.
2. To sew the lines, begin sewing just above the pocket
strip, backstitch, and continue sewing following your
lines. Go slow so you can see your tracing lines. You
continue to sew between the pockets as shown by the top
picture. (It takes more time to take the calendar on and
off the machine.) Back stitch when you get to the bottom.
3. To sew the bottom of the pockets, sew right on top of the
bottom seam for each pocket strip. Backstitch at
beginning and end.

4. Remove paper backing from numbers and place on pockets. I just eyeballed their placement. If you
like, you can cut out a heart and glue it to the ‘14’ pocket. I just used tacky glue. (Stick a piece of
wax paper inside the pocket so the glue doesn’t seep through to the fabric and stick to it.)
5. Fuse numbers in place following the
directions for your brand of iron‐on
adhesive.
6. Sew the banner in place. Just follow the
edge of the banner and sew it to the
calendar. Use 3/8” seam allowance.
7. To finish, slide the calendar on to a 20 ‐
24” long dowel rod. You may need to cut
yours to size.
8. Finish it off by tying on a piece of ribbon
on either end of the rod for hanging. Cut it
to your desired length. You also can add
bits of ribbon or torn strips of fabric.
