CONSTRUCTION SEQUENCE
SLIDING BODY
1. Cut steel to Length (on the Brobo saw).
2. Tack weld the sides to the top.
3. Drill and bore the dia 22 (minimum) hole in the front of the sliding body. Tack
Weld into place.
4. Drill the holes in the Jaw backing plate (drill as a pain to ensure alignment) Mill
the back of the plate to accept the jaws.
5. Tack weld the backing plate and the strengthening gussets to the sliding
body.
BASE
1. Cut the steel to length
2. Drill the holes in the base.
3. Tack weld the sides, top and base use the sliding body as a jig with one on
two thickness of tinplate to provide clearance
4. Tack weld the backing plate in place, clamp to the backing plate on the
sliding to ensure alignment
5. Tack weld the strengthening gussets in place.
6. Check both the sliding body and the base for alignment and for square, if
satisfactory finish welding both the sliding body and base.
SPINDLE
1. Cut steel to length.
2. Turn to the correct diameter, 22mm is the minimum diameter suitable for the
spindle.
3. Turn the square thread an the spindle, practice on a scrap piece of steel if
unsure of your ability to turn a square thread
4. Drill the hole for the handle

NUT
1. Mill the cast iron block so that it fits into the sliding body.
2. Drill and bore the hole for the square thread, take the size from the spindle.
3. Turn the square in the nut, check the fit with the spindle.
HANDLE
1. Cut to length.
2. Turn caps.
3. Polish to a high finish.
JAWS
1. Cut to length.
2. Machine the teeth on the shaper.
3. Mark and drill the holes in the jaws, use the backing plate as a template.
4. Case harden the jaws.
SPRING
Can be wound from spring steel if no springs are available.
ASSEMBLY
1. Place the washer on the spindle and place the spindle in the sliding body.
2. Add the spring and second washer and fix in place with the 3mm pin.
3. Screw in the nut and slide the body into the base
4. Weld the two locking pins into the base.
5. Attach the handle.
