THE ENGLISH CIVIL

WAR(S)
OR, A DISSERTATION UPON THE SUBJECT OF THE TWENTY
YEARS OF FIGHTING KNOWN BY SOME AS THE WARS OF THE
THREE KINGDOMS.

A BRIEF SUMMARY OF THE FIRST CIVIL

WAR; OR, IN WHICH THINGS BEGIN.
England, circa 1642: An Irish insurrection prompts the
recently reformed Parlaiment to air their complaints
against the king. Charles, angry at Parlaiment and their
refusal to comply with his newly raised taxes, raises his
standard in Nottingham. The first battle of the First Civil
War begins shortly thereafter, at Edge Hill. It is followed by
two more battles, culminating in the defeat of Charles I at
the Battle of Naseby. Oliver Cromwell begins to come to
prominence.

THE SECOND CIVIL WAR; OR, A BRIEF

PERIOD OF ANNOYANCE IN BETWEEN
PERIODS OF CALM.
For a time, Charles was imprisoned by Parlaiment,
though they eventually released him. Upon his
release, Charles promptly raised a second army,
and was soundly defeated at the Battle of Preston
(not to be confused with the battle of Ted). Charles I
was executed in 1649. However, that was not the
end. Oliver Cromwell started taking control of
Parlaiment.

THE THIRD CIVIL WAR; OR, A SMALL

INVASION OF SCOTLAND.
Charles II, son of Charles I, was more than slightly
annoyed about his fathers execution. He thus founded an
army of English and Scottish royalists, prompting
Parlaiment, now pretty much bossed around by Oliver
Cromwell, to invade Scotland in an attempt to put down
the uprising. While this attempt was successful, and the
royalist army was defeated in 1651, Charles II fled to
France; and he nevertheless ascended the throne in 1660.
