Definition:
o Warmth may relieve pain, relax muscle spasms, increase circulation,
and help heal a wound or other problems that affect the eye.
o Eye warm therapy is used to increase blood flow to the area by
promoting vasodilation and decrease blood viscosity
Purpose:
o To liquefy any secretions that have solidified and are clogging the
glands
o To relieve discomfort or pain
o To increase circulation
Methods:
o Dry warmth
Place a protective layer of fabric between a warm compress and the
skin. Heating pads and hot water bottles can be used on larger
surfaces needing heat.
o Moist warmth
Towels or washcloths can be soaked in warm water, wrung out, and
placed on the area.

o Basin
o Gauze /Clean washcloth / hot bags
