Pollution

The air that we breathe daily is made up of 57% from vehicles, area sources such as
houses and buildings 37% and finally industry point sources such as power plants are 11% this is
the reason for the Smog in the air. Now the key question is that what are we doing and what can
be done to help lower the pollution levels and make it safe for everyone, pollution is a big issue
here in Utah because of what happens during the seasons and how the air quality varies but at
this point in time in the winter it is the worst and something must be done and not make the air
we breathe hazardous, is to not burn wood, dont use your vehicle if it is not necessary and prefer
to use public transportation that is why we have the UTA Trax and Bus also Frontrunner.

What
are we doing about the air quality on vehicles, well they are working on a clean diesel program
to make less toxins being sent into the air when stepping on the gas pedal when driving. And
also they are making air quality action alerts to make sure we know about the pollution.

What can we do to help lower the area sources in the area which is conserve energy, use
less toxic or nontoxic materials and no spray cans, also use water-based not oil based paints, and
the company Envision Utah has been working on solutions to consider to help for better air
quality by Lowering the wood burning during the winter inversion and the whole year would
decrease daily area source emissions and by every decade the air quality would be better off
more than one percent.

The air we have in the Salt Lake valley is moderate which means it is good for most of the
people, but not for those people with breathing problems they are one of those victims and are at
risk of getting asthma attacks they are asked by their doctors to consider reducing being outdoors
and to stay indoors more, the pollution is way worse for children because they are still maturing
and developing their bodies and being around outside would make the body inhale more air per
pound of body weight.

Car dealer ships today are starting now to recommended you when buying your first car
to be a car with an Eco Boost engine because it 20% better fuel efficiency and 15% reduced
greenhouse emissions than other car engines, by them giving you facts you can start to think
about what this car would do and not be so bad driving compared to any other car on the road.
Using a gas-powered lawn mower for one hour produces as much pollution as driving your car
50 miles on the road does that make you think differently about what you are really doing.

The air quality right now is at 9.5 and that is good and lower
then it was last time I checked it is always in the moderate
section between 20-25, thats during a regular everyday bases
because majority of the people who go to work have a car and
is their way of transportation. During the rush hour on the
freeway that is when the air quality is the worse because
all the cars moving so slowly and the vehicles are
releasing all toxins from the engines into the air when
the cars idle and everyone is stuck because of traffic
everyone trying to go home at the same time as one another.

Watch out for those days when the air is at its worse with high levels of air pollution that
message is for everyone for your own safety and especially those who suffer from asthma or any
breathing conditions to stay indoors and prevent going outside and not risking any attacks that
you can get from breathing, make sure to check air quality index when about to go out to see if it
is ok for you to be outdoors and not risking your health due to the bad air quality.

Avoiding air pollution hot spots you cant escape the pollution but you can try and reduce
the air that you will breathing from thinking smart and when going for a walk or exercising
outdoors, choose somewhere that avoids major streets or highways, also when planning a trip to
the park and play date for the kids to enjoy being at the playgrounds, try and find some place
with less activities from cars in the area driving by occasionally and stay as far away from the
highways.

If you live in an area with very high air pollution, consider installing air filters inside
your home to lower the levels of pollution for you and the people around you. Scientists have
said that air pollution from cars, factories and power plants is a major cause of asthma attacks,
more than 40% of the nations population lives in areas with bad air.
During an asthma attack your airways become swollen while your chest feels tight you may start
coughing aggressively and you just can't seem to catch your breath and these asthma attacks kill
more than 3,000 people every year in the United States Study shows that 30% of kids will have
asthma due to bad air and too much exposure from all the things that creates Smog and with the
pollution in the air.
