P.S. 305 will be holding our annual Science Fair on
Monday March 9th-13th 2015. Participation in a science fair is an enjoyable way for students to learn how to conduct experiments and to solve problems. Students will make displays that show the steps used in conducting their experiments. While models and modeling are important to science, we are not permitting students to display models of things such as volcanoes, tornadoes in a bottle or the solar system. Instead, we are encouraging them to ask questions and to set up experiments to answer their questions. In this way they learn to approach science as scientists do. Each student will be required to turn in a display board and a typed report. This will be reflected in their science grade. Please do not allow your child to write directly on the science board, everything should be typed and then glued onto the board. This science fair project is a requirement. Any project not turned in may result in a failing science grade. All projects are due March 9, 2015. Attached is a form that each student is required to fill out and return to me by February 13, 2015. Also attached is a slip each parent is required to sign as an acknowledgment of this packet. After the science project is approved by me
each student will receive a display board to present their
project on. I have also attached the rubric that the judges will use to judge each project. The winners from grades 4 and 5 will compete in the district 13 Science Expo in May. This packet will help support you in helping your student at home. If you have any questions please feel free to contact me at school with a message 718-789-3962 or Lnorville@schools.nyc.gov. Also dont forget the visit the school science website www.sciencelabatps305@weebly.com. Sincerely, Mrs. Norville Science Teacher
