There are 26 questions in total. Questions 1 to 5 are very short answer types and
carry one mark each.
Questions 6 to 10 carry two marks each. Question 11 to 22 carry three marks each
and questions 24 to 26 carry five marks each.
Question 23 is a value based question carrying four marks.
Use if calculators are not permitted. However, you may use the log tables, if
necessary.

Q1. Explain why two field lines never cross each other at any point.
Q2. A copper wire of resistivity 1 is stretched to reduce its diameter to half of its
original value, what will be its new resistivity?

Q4. Under what conditions does a biconvex lens of glass having a certain refractive

gates. Identify the logic operation
carried out by the two circuits.

Q11. A potentiometer circuit is set up as shown. The potential
gradient across the potentiometer wire is 0.025 V/cm
and
the ammeter present in the circuit reads o.1 A, when the two
way key is completely switched off. The balance point, when
the key between the terminals (i) 1 & 2 (ii) 1& 3, is plugged in,
are found to be at lengths 40cm and 100 cm respectively. Find
the values of R and X.
Q12. A rectangular loop of wire of size 2.5 cm x 4 cm carries a
steady current of 1A. A straight wire carrying 2A current is kept
near the loop as shown. If the loop and the wire are coplanar, find
the (i) torque acting on the loop and (ii) the magnitude and
direction of the force on the loop due to current carrying wire.

conductor PQ is moving in a uniform and time independent
magnetic field as shown below. Assuming that there is no loss of
energy due to friction, deduce an expression for the power spent

Q23. Nikhil purchased a second hand motor bike and fixed 6V dry cell battery to start
it but could not start. His friend Lakshay told him that a simple 6V dry cell battery
will be not work because its internal resistance is more and it can not give a desired
current of 30A to switch ON the spark plug. Lakshay suggested that Nikhil should
use lead acid battery of 6V. Nikhil accepted his suggestion got fitted a lead acid
battery and his problem solved.
a. What quality shown by Lakshay?
b. If the internal resistance of dry cell battery 0.5, what maximum current can it
provide to the spark plug. (Resistance of spark plug is 20 )
c. If the internal resistance of lead acid battery be 0.01, what maximum current
can it provide to the spark plug? Is it sufficient to operate the spark plug?
Q24. Draw the labeled ray diagram for the formation of image by a compound
microscope. Derive an expression for
its magnifying power, when final image is
formed at the near point. Why both objective and eyepiece of a compound
microscope must have their short focal length?

(i)
A beam of light, consisting of two wavelengths, 600nm and 450nm is used
to obtain interference fringes in a Youngs double slit experiment. Find the
least distance, from the central maximum where the bright fringes, due to
both the wavelengths, coincide. The distance between the two slits is
4.0mm and the screen is at a distance of 1.0m from the slits.
(ii)
In double slit experiment SS2>SS1. Does the central
bright observed in the given set up lie above or below
O?
(iii) How would the angular separation of interference
fringes in Youngs double silt experiment change when
the distance of separation between silts and screen is doubled?
Q25. Derive an expression for energy stored in a parallel plate capacitor C charged to
a potential difference V. hence derives an expression for the energy density of a
capacitor.

A parallel plate capacitor with each plate area A and separationd is charged to
a potential difference V. The battery used to charge it is then disconnected. A
dielectric slab of thicknessd and dielectric constant K is now placed in between
the plates of the capacitor. What charge if any, will take place in

b) A small metal sphere carrying charge +Q is located at the centre of

spherical cavity inside a large uncharged metallic spherical shell as
shown in the figure. Use Gausss law to find the expressions for the
electric field at points P1, P2 and P3.
Q26. Draw a simple circuit of a CE transistor amplifier. Explain its
