*The Call to Worship:
We gather to sing praises to God. We gather to sing of
God's mighty deeds and wondrous works.
God, who names the stars; and scatters the proud; who
gathers the outcast;
who heals the broken-hearted; covers the heavens with
clouds;
sends rain on the earth; and takes pleasure in those
whose hope is in God's steadfast love.
Come, let's come before God with awe, thanksgiving and
praise.

*The Opening Prayer:

God, we gather this day to remember your great love for us.
Your love which is woven within us, and in the fabric of
all creation. We cannot comprehend the magnitude of your
love for this planet and for its people. Yet, you know each
one of us by name, and call us to works of peace and
justice. We respond to your call; a call that leads us into
works of justice, peace and compassion, praying our
prayer of justice and peace:
Our Father, who art in heaven...

We Respond to Gods Word

Offering Invitation
*Response: Your Work O God Needs Many Hands VU 537
Your work, O God, needs many hands to help you
everywhere, and some there are who cannot serve unless our
gifts we share.
Because we love you and your work, our offering now we
make; be pleased to use it as your own, we ask for Jesus
sake.

*The Prayer of Dedication:

God, we are all in this together. May we keep that in mind
as we return to you a portion of what you have given us. We
pray that our offerings may be one means of moving your
creation a little closer to peace, justice and reconciliation.
AMEN!

Precious Lord, Take My Hand

Shawns Story

Community and Justice Work

Shawn grew up in a life of drugs, alcohol, and violence. When he

ended up on the streets of Victoria, he wasnt alonehis dad was
there to show him the ropes.
My dad was a long-standing member of the Victoria street
community, says Shawn, 32. He drank everything. He drank
rubbing alcohol. Its super cheap and has a high alcohol content.
His dad introduced Shawn to Our Place, a low-barrier mission that
offers a respite from the street. Together, father and son made a
plan to get sober, but Dad died on the stairs behind the Empress
Hotel. He had a heart attack and an alcoholic seizure. He was 47
years old.
Confronted by his fathers death, Shawn had a tough time
honouring his promise to turn his life around. But then an outreach
worker at Our Place convinced him to go into treatment. After
three months, Shawn moved to a recovery house and joined
Narcotics Anonymous. He returned to Our Place and volunteered
to give back by doing custodial work, which led to full-time
employment.
There was lots of support there, he says. People noticed I had
changed.
Our Place also encouraged Shawn to apply for funding to learn a
trade. It was hard, but he successfully completed a Metal
Fabrication certification and now works full-time for a major aircraft
construction company in Victoria.
Shawn had the willingness to do whatever he had to do to
change, says Bob, the building manager at Our Place. That
saved him. We just gave him the platform to recover.
Please join me and give generously for Mission and Service.
Together we are helping people and changing lives.
Mighty and tender God, our gifts to M&S help your church to
do justice, love kindness, and walk humbly with you.
