Dear KG1 Parents, We are excited to be celebrating Parent Engagement Week at GIS. There are many
opportunities for you to learn more about what your children do at school and about how you can support their
learning at home. We are also looking forward to celebrating the diversity in our school with your help through the
Home Country Sharing afternoons and International Day! A reminder to please send your childs school ID card
with lanyard before Thursday. Thank you to all for your participation

Our Unit of Inquiry How We Express Ourselves

Students have been discussing and learning about our central idea: Through play we express our feelings and
ideas to help us come to new understandings.
This week we will be continuing our inquiry into Uses of games and toys through the Concept of Perspective. As
we play games, we will be discussing how it feels to win and to lose at a game. Students will reflect on their
feelings and express them through pictures and writing.

Language
We will focus on letter /o/this week.
Suggested vocabulary: orange, octopus, ocean, open, ostrich, olive, oval, and octagon.
We will listen to the story Octopus Opposites and learn about opposites. We will also be working on
expressing our thoughts, feelings, and ideas through pictures and words. Students will show in their journals
what they did over the weekend.

Mathematics
We will consolidate our knowledge of shapes and patterns by continuing to practice with our Math Centers.

In Arabic this week our new letter is Sheen and they will recognize new words related to this letter.
