Northwood High School is part of the highly regarded Montgomery County School

District. MCPS is the largest school district in the state of Maryland, and the 17th
largest in the nation. Northwood is located in the down-county area, and is part of
the Down County Consortium of schools. Northwood is the newest of the five
schools, having re-opened its doors in August of 2004. The school opened with the
class of 2008, and has added on a freshman class every year. We currently have three
grades, and our first graduating class will be the class of 2008.

Northwood prides itself in being “the school of choice”. Our students choose to
come to Northwood for the personal attention they receive from the faculty, as well
as the programs offered through several concentrated learning academies. Our
school is very diverse and reflective of the population in the Washington D.C.
metropolitan area.

A program unique to Northwood is our collaboration with the University of Maryland,

College Park. Our students are provided the special opportunity to take classes at the
University in their senior year. Seniors participating in the collaboration attend a
university class during the school day while being enrolled in 2-3 courses at Northwood.
Thus, students are exposed to the real “college experience” in their senior year of high
school.
