Scenario:
Anyone considering a career in the computer games industry needs to be aware of the various
disciplines and skills relevant to the industry which may be outside their own particular interest
or career goals. The Quality Assurance (QA) Lead has approached you about producing an
article for an Online Magazine called ImagineFX. In your role as Concept Artist you decide to
focus on the purposes of concept art in computer games.

Concept Art for Games: Concept Art for Games: What you Need to Know
You are asked to write an illustrated article (1000/1500) on the purposes of
concept art in computer games for an online computer games e-zine. Research,
analyses and evaluate the use of concept art in the development of existing games
titles. Discuss the purpose of concept art within the gaming industry- Who is it
useful for? How is it actually used- give examples of a games production pipeline.
At what stage is concept art used, is it only in the initial stages of a games
development? Express your personal opinion on the artwork

Find examples of concept art and artists you particularly like and appraise their
work. Look at case studies of games character design. Document your
understanding in the form of an article, utilizing imagery to illustrate examples. All
examples and information should be referenced accurately in a bibliography.
You should cover the following in your article:
1. Research use of concept art in games
2. Research examples of artists work for article
3. Write article, commenting on styles and purpose of concept art based on the
examples sourced
4. Layout article with illustrations
