Computer Game Platforms and Technologies
Scenario: You have started working for a computer games magazine. One of your first
tasks is to create an article that covers the history of games consoles using the knowledge
you have gained in lectures and any knowledge from your own research.
Game designers should have a full understanding of the capabilities and benefits of the
different hardware platforms (such as PCs, consoles and mobile devices) as well as
familiarity with software technologies and techniques appropriate to each platform.
This knowledge is highly desirable when seeking a career in this industry.

You will need to produce a detailed description of the types of video game
platforms looking at all manufactures and then create a timeline list of the
video game platforms covering early designs up to current day and even
proposed future developments.
You will be required to submit a Word document which covers the
following requirements:
An introduction to the article outlining what you intend to cover
The developmental history of video game platforms, in the form of
a timeline indicating key examples of platform advances.
The features and limitations of the following platform types,
including examples from these platforms;
Arcade
Console
PC
Mobile
TV
A conclusion, indicating your thoughts on the potential for future
gaming platforms
You should check all your work for spelling and grammar before
submission and you should use images in your report to support the

examples that you reference.


This document should be submitted onto eStudy in a Word format and a
printed copy should be submitted to the tutor. Retain your original Word or
other format document.
