Task 1

Sample Essay (at least 150 words)

The four diagrams show flu and death rates, together with the female
recipients of a new vaccine. The vaccine was given to the female residents of a big
town in June 2005 (use past tense as the year is in the past - 2005).
It is shown that 35% which were females more than 65 years old received the
vaccine. In addition (linking word), it was given to babies or children and the least
was given to those hospitalised and receiving treatment at 13%. Unfortunately,
some women did not get the vaccine.
The flu rates among females were higher than male by approximately
(adverb) 4,000 cases in June. After the vaccine was given, the cases among female
went down gradually to 4,500 in September. No male was reportedly dead before
June. However, there was one death case after that. Surprisingly, after the vaccine
was given to the female residents, there was an increase of death by one case. ( 1 or

The diagrams indicate flu rate as well as death rates for both male and
female. Flu vaccine was only given to females due to high cases among them.
Death rate had accumulated after the vaccine was given maybe/most probably (if
this is your own reason) from those who did not receive it.
