Final Portfolio Project

A portfolio is a collection of work that is submitted and marked as a whole. Your portfolio will
demonstrate your knowledge, thinking and application skills through an initial submission of your work
and a submission with revisions.
Over the last four weeks you have submitted an assignment to Ms. Cassidy (at the end of each week)
and returned your work with feedback and a level (1-4+). For your portfolio, you will make revisions
based on the feedback.
Your final portfolio is due Day 20 and the work submitted will determine your final mark.
Objective:
You may choose whichever activities you want to include in your portfolio. Your portfolio must include
a collection of revised activities that equal 30 points.
Each piece is worth 10 points each.
1. Daily Blog: You will be placed in one of the following groups and one of the roles within that
group. The groups are: the Serfs, the Clergy, the Royal Class, the Knights and Pages, and the
Lords and Ladies. You will blog from the perspective of someone in the role assigned to you
(i.e. Merchant, King, Nun, etc.) and reference lesson materials (one post daily for the whole
week).
2. Build a Castle: Pretend that you are a present day architect. Based on the information we have
learned in class and research you can conducted yourself, recreate a medieval castle and village
in the program Minecraft. You must provide a rationale of why you built your castle and village
the way that you did (*reference your research and class notes).
3. Author & Illustrate a Legend: You will write and illustrate a legend about medieval times (a
modified version, such as King Arthur, or completely your own design about knights and
dragons). You have a choice of submitting a paper or electronic version (i.e.
www.storybird.com).
4. Build a Catapult: With your knowledge of pulleys and tension in science class, and your
knowledge of catapults in social studies class, you will design, build, and test a miniature
catapult (in groups), but you will individually provide a rationale of your groups choices and
your personal contributions.
5. Culture & the Arts: You will research and design a virtual museum exhibit through Glogster to
illustrate a medieval masquerade (costume, music, art, food) with videos, photos, and text.
Assessment:
Your portfolio will be assessed based on the Ontario curriculum achievement chart (Knowledge,
Thinking, Communication, Application). The rubric chart is attached to this document. Please refer to
the rubric chart as your complete and revise your portfolio.
