Inquiry Proposal
I decided to write my inquiry paper about how same-sex parenting is just as effective as
traditional style parenting. More and more same-sex couples are deciding to adopt or perform
surrogacy as time passes; this is likely due to the push of the Human Rights Campaign. There are many
of questions I could propose to everyone who will read this but a few are more important and far more
frequently asked than others. Most of the questions are simple and basic and they are what you think
would be asked when having a conversation about this particular subject.
Does love trump hate? This is such a simple question but it can arouse many answers and
responses by lesbian and gay parents. This question is a big deal because this is ultimately the deciding
factor whether or whether not they have children. This question leads me to the next asking point;
Wouldn't the children get bullied outside of the home, if so how would this affect their bringing up as
a child? Not only does this question hit hard for parents but it also speaks to traditional parents. This
question is very serious to many people because no one would like the child to be punished for
something they could not help.
The last question is What makes same-sex parenting families different than that of traditional
style parenting families? If people can only answer this with only one difference, is it really that big of
a deal? I have picked up two books from the library on campus for my resources to write this inquiry.
The first one being Love Makes a Family by Peggie Gillespie. This book shows portraits of real life
same-sex couples and their families. It describes what they faced and what they went through since
their families were considered different. The next book I am going to use is Lesbian and gay parents

and their children : research on the family life cycle This book explains what legal rights should be
given to the families. It also explains the experiences that the families had while their families matured.
I will also use the human rights campaign website to get facts and percentages dealing with same-sex
parenting. There is also some PDF's I came across while searching on the libraries website here at
UNCC that would in use to my research.
Upon completing this paper I hope to research enough into this controversy so that I can give a
good answer as to why same-sex parenting is just as affective and nurturing as traditional style
parenting. I believe it will be a well organized research paper that gives people who are questioning this
controversy a sound understanding as to why there aren't differences that could harm anyone.
I believe all answers to the questions that I have proposed will be useful information when
people actually read this inquiry and it will be helpful. I am not entirely sure this is how this paper will
pan out. I really hope it does and I hope my findings help to ease everyones mind about same-sex
parenting. Based off of the readings that I have went through I am very happy with the findings and it
assures me that my inquiry is heading in the right direction but this is research, you never know what
you might come across when writing a paper like this.
In my paper I plan to introduce what same-sex parenting is and how it is different from
traditional style parenting. Withing the next paragraphs I intend on bring up questions and concerns that
stem from this controversy of whether or not same-sex parenting is just as effective as traditional style.
Then after every question, I will respond to them with an educated and fully researched answer so that I
can inform the reader. In concluding the paper, I will rehash every point that I researched and inform
the audience by telling them what the evidence and answers equaled up to be in the end.
