This is a final report on how women perform on police patrol. This study utilized 80 female officers and 80 male officers from the Washington, D.C. Metropolitan Police Department to compare their performances. The Police Foundation took on this initiative as police agencies across the nation became more aware of the lack of objective studies conducted about policewomen in agencies, their performances on patrol, and the prevalence of discrimination based on gender. Understanding whether there’s a difference in how women and men perform on patrol could change the hiring policies of agencies and how agency administers perceive women on patrol.
