Sutures
Sutures help protect
the brain
Sutures are formed by
connective tissues
Prevent movement
between the bones

Sternum
There are 3 parts of the sternum:
1. Manubrium:
. The widest part of the sternum
. Provides attachment points for rib
cartilage
2. Body:
. Longest part and middle of the sternum
. Is attached to the 2nd-10th rib
3. Xiphoid Process
. Smallest and bottom-most part of the
sternum
. Attachment point for the diaphragm

Vertebral column
There are 4 parts to the
vertebral column:
1. Cervical
2. Thoracic
3. Lumbar
4. Sacral
5. Coccyx

All of the parts of the vertebral column


allow movement of the back.
The thoracic connects to 12 ribs
The sacrum and coccyx are 1 bone each
and make the tailbone

The floating rib


The "floating ribs" are
the 11th and 12th
pairs of the ribs
Half the size of the
other ribs
Do not reach the front
of the body

Sternum - breast bone
(Manubrium,
Body, Xiphoid
Process)
Patella - knee cap

Common names
Carpals - Wrist bone

Scapula - Shoulder blade
