February News!
Dont Forget to Get Your
Sock Hop Tickets!
The annual Sock Hop is on February 6 from
6:00-8:00 pm. A pink flyer has gone home
in Monday Envelopes the last two weeks.
Please purchase your tickets and come
ready to dance, or just have fun with
friends! Only Castlemont students are
allowed, and they must be accompanied by
an adult. The money raised from the Sock
Hop Dance goes to the teachers to
purchase more supplies for the
classroom!:)

Biography Reports
This month we will be working on our biography
reports. Students have chosen an important person to
study. The first step was to create an outline about
that person. The outline was due on Friday, January
30. The second step is to fill in the poster handed out
in class. The posters are due on Friday, February 6. We
will spend the week of February 9 creating a Keynote
presentation about the students important person. Our
goal is to start presenting these Keynotes and posters
either the last week of February or the first week of
March. Presentation dates and times will be sent home
for parents to come in and watch their child present. If
you have a specific day and/or time that works best for
you please let me know as soon as possible.

In the Upcoming Weeks

Math: We have finished looking at addition and
subtraction, and have moved into looking at area.
Students have been looking at using square inches and
square centimeters to find area. We have also been
using our measurement skills to measure the side
lengths of various rectangles. We will be continuing to
look deeper into area and how it relates to
multiplication.

Valentines Day
I will send home a list of student names in case
you are planning to bring it some Valentines
Day cards. We will spend a little time passing
out cards on Friday, February 13. We will be
learning about being healthy that week, so if
you would like to bring any healthy snacks that
day we will have a short time to eat and relax.
Things you might want to bring are fruit,
vegetables, salads, and more. Please let me
know if you have any questions.

English Language Arts: We have started our unit on

frogs to help us with our close reading and
comprehension skills as well as informational writing.
We will also continue to work on grammar throughout
the week. In addition, we will slowly start to
incorporate cursive writing in with out Nifty Fifty
practice. This will be done in class.
