Dear Ms. Patton,

I am reading a phenomenal book called
The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe
By
C.S. Lewis. The genre of this book is fantasy. The adventure all started when kids, Lucy,
Edmund, Peter, and Susan accidentally discover a world called Narnia through a wardrobe.
Narnia is under control of the evil White Witch. The Witch has Narnia under a spell. The
spell is that Narnia is always Winter, but never Christmas. The kids find out that the only
way to defeat the Witch (and end Winter) is to have all four kids sit at the throne of Cair
Paravel. The kids receive that information from talking beavers. Conflictingly, they find out
Edmund was manipulated and captured by the White Witch. So the kids have to team up
with Aslan the Great Lion to get Edmund back and defeat the witch and end Winter.
One important fantasy part in the book was the beavers. That part was fantasy
because the beavers could talk, understand stuff, and work efficiently. They were
important because they told the four children about the prophecy on how to defeat the
Witch (sitting in the thrones at Cair Paravel). They also told the kids that the White Witch
was evil. Thats important because the four kids may be the only chance to defeat the
White Witch in a long time. If the beavers couldnt talk the kids would have no clue on how
to defeat the White Witch, but most of all, they wouldnt even know that she was evil. The
beavers were a huge aspect of the story because they guided the children.
One authors craft that I found was a personification. The personification was, Just
as the frying pan was nicely hissing. The hissing part of that sentence really gave me an
idea of what the frying pan sounded like. It was a very strong and good describing word. It
was a unique to describe a frying pans sound. One of my thinking tracks for that
personification was, Hissing is the perfect way to describe what a frying pan sounds like.
One reading strategy that I made was a visualization of Narnia. I pictured Narnia very
snowy, cold, lots of evergreen trees, bitter, and filled with animals. The fact that Narnia is
always Winter and cold gave me a negative feeling, so I pictured Narnia bitter. That really
helped me understand the setting while I was reading the book. I had a pretty clear picture
in my head because of the way the author described Narnia.
My rating of the book was a 9.5-10. Thats because it was interesting learning
about Narnia, a fantasy world with many creatures. Also the book had a greatly developed
plot and moved along at the perfect pace. This book is part of a series called The Chronicles
of Narnia. I would definitely read other books by this author because all of his books are
thrilling and imaginative. This book is a must read if you are into a fantastic world because
this book has one. I finished all 208 pages of the book.

Sincerely,
Nick
