THERE IS - THERE ARE

1. There is (forma de singular) i there are (forma de plural)

reprezint o construcie cu nelesul de se afl, este, se gsete - se
afl, sunt, se gsesc. De cele mai multe ori there is i there are se
folosesc la nceputul propoziiilor precednd subiectul:
There is a bag on the table. (Se gsete o geant pe mas.)
There are not many mistakes in the dictation. (Nu sunt multe greeli n
dictare.)
Are there many chairs in the room? (Se afl multe scaune n camer?)
Is there a long ruler on the table? (Este o rigl lung pe mas?)
2. Forma interogativa se obine prin inversarea celor doi termeni: is
there?, are there?
3. Forma negativa se construiete prin adugarea negaiei not dup
verb: there is not, there are not.
Not: Expresia there is sau there are nu trebuie confundat cu
adverbul there (acolo).
There is a man there. (Se afl un om acolo.)
There are not many chairs there. (Nu sunt multe scaune acolo.)
