How did you attract/address your audience?

To attract our audience of teenagers and young adults we has to consider how we would portray and display our protagonist
and antagonist characters; in a way that the audience could feel connected and engaged to.
With the use of mise en scene, we had Ingrid, the protagonist dressed in casual clothes and natural make up to increase the
verisimilitude of her character and make her as relatable as possible. This setting and environment allows for the chase scene
to appear as shock to Ingrid and this makes you feel sympathetic towards her. We had a close up of her face as she turns her
head round and this displays the fear and shock in her facial expression, along with this you could also hear her heavy
breathing which we added with the use of Foley sound. This intensifies the fear she portrays, thus grabbing that audiences
attention and creating emotion.
As for sound, we had an upbeat soundtrack for the background music and made sure that the tempo changes accordingly
with each shot to set the appropriate mood. Other than music we found the having no dialogue was the most affective and
we thought of it as a successful idea. For an opening sequence we wanted to be able to attract and engage the audience so
that from the beginning of the film they feel that they need some questions answered which would require them to watch the
entire film. Silence or lack of dialogue in the opening sequence allows us illustrate an intriguing narrative without giving too
much away, creating enigma codes.
By having female leads, we wanted to attract a female audience in order to increase the amount of females who watch action
thrillers. This was challenging the gender social group, as it is stereotypical for males to be the majority of the audience.
Overall we took many aspects of our research and incorporated it into our opening sequence. Researching other films of the
same genre and carrying out surveys and questionnaires for feedback benefited us a lot in making sure we convey the genre
well by following some of its common conventions.
