OBP Proposal

Introduction/Background: I am going to build an open

source watch. The concept of this project is to build a watch that is
capable of displaying notifications from a smartphone and can be
customized in function and appearance.

Purpose/Objectives:

Some of the things that I will learn from

this project are: setting up a circuit, soldering, wiring the inside of the
watch, programming and use of an Arduino. The objective is to make
an interactive watch that is compatible with a smart phone.

Project Scope and Possible Execution:

This project
will be challenging. It is possible, but it will be very testing of my skills
and will be fairly time consuming. This project is based on a watch that
was built by the people of Make Magazine. This watch is meant to
accomplish all of the same tasks as this watch.

Timeline: Week 1- Order parts, prepare basics of project for part

arrival
Week 2- Assemble the outer frame of the watch and
begin wiring
Week 3-4- Finish the wiring process and program the
Arduino
Week 5- Finishing touches and booting up the watch

Ties To Curriculum:
A3.2 My project falls under this category because it contains many
different circuits to operate.

B1.1

My project falls under this category because the watch will be

built to follow certain requirements, which are showing notifications
and showing time.

B3.2 My project falls under this category because I will be

constructing circuits to perform specific functions such as vibrating
when I receive a notification.

B3.3 This category sits my project because I will safely construct

circuits using tools such as soldering.

D3.1

This category fits my project because it covers many career

opportunities related to computer technology such as programming
wiring and soldering.

Possible Complications: Some of the issues I might have

with this project are wiring and soldering the circuits due to the size of
the watch and its components and due to the fact that I have never
soldered before. I could also have potential issues with programming
the microduino for the watch to operate.
