Individual Assignment (15%)
1. This document sets out the requirements for the individual assignment. This is not group
work.
2. The assignment requires each student to write a one page essay to provide a
comprehensive answer to the following statement:

A branch office of a firm that shows an operating loss should be shut down.
3. Evaluate the statement above and provide an explanation. You are required to consider
knowledge and concepts related to relevant information for decision making, decision
model and steps and concepts related to cost behaviour and analysis to provide an answer.
Illustrate your question with examples to demonstrate your understanding of these issues.
Refer to slides for Seminars 1-3 and to the text (Horngren et al).
4. The assignment should be typed and submitted via the assignment link in BB. Please
observe all SP Jain assignment guidelines including rules regarding plagiarism. There is
no requirement to provide references. Answers that are in dot point form and not in an
essay format will be marked down.
5. Due date for the assignment is Wed, Feb 4, 2015 by 5pm. No extensions will be granted.
