BUSINESS PLAN ON CASSAVA PROCUCTION IN NIGERIA

The report contains findings on the viability/feasibility study conducted on the

production of the following cassava and its derivatives. The products listed as
follows:
a Casssava tubers from 1000 hectare cassava farm
b Cassava flour
c Fufu powder
d Chips
e Garri
The proposed project plant when established is expected to produce any of the
following products on daily basis at first quarter of the year.
a 15,000 metric tonnes of cassava tubers
b 15 metric tonnes of flour/day or
c 15 metric tonnes of fufu/day or
d 15 metric tonnes of cassava chips/day or
e 15 metric tonnes of garri/day
The project, no doubt will create jobs for a lot of Nigerians especially the youth. The
project will go a long way in solving the unemployment problem the country is
facing. In this regard, it will reduce the level of social vices in the country. Devil they
say creates jobs for the idle hand.
The project will contribute to rural development because rural communities shall be
organized into co-operative societies to plant cassava with the IITA improved
variety. On the long run, the project will improve rural income which is one of the
millennium development goal (MDGs)
NATURE OF THE PROJECT
The project is the setting up medium scale factory for the production of cassava
flour, fufu powder, cassava Chips and Garri from cassava tubers. These cassava
derivatives are the products by the proposed plant. They will be extracted from
cassava to a required level of quality acceptable for human consumption.

LOCATION
The factory will be located in Abuja been the centre of Nigeria. The location is also
in line with the Federal Government policy of dispersal of industries especially in
rural and urban areas. The site is considered fit for distribution of finished products
to all parts of the country.
MARKETING
The major channel of distribution will be through accredited distributors and agents.
Direct sales from the factory site will also be carried out to major distributors.
CONCLUSION
Based on the findings, the establishment of cassava based products factory is not

only technically feasible but is also economically viable. The establishment of the
project will enhance the domestic capacity in producing cassava products and
thereby reducing the intensity of dependence on imports The project will also
combat hunger as various food products will be processed.
