March 5th, 2015 Inclusion isTrue and Ideal inclusion is educating all children with a disability in a regular school setting regardless of their disability. Involving students with disabilities in as many academic and extracurricular activities as possible Encouraging friendships and other social relationships between students with disabilities and students without disabilities Teaching all children to understand and accept that we all have differences General education students learn acceptance and empathy for students with disabilities In an inclusion classroom, there is an Early Childhood Education (ECE) Special Education Itinerant Teacher who responsibilities include: Makes certain that the students Individualized Education Program (IEP) is being followed exactly as it should be Attends and participates in meetings at the Committee on Preschool Special Education (CPSE) for the students annual IEP meeting to report on progress, changes and new goals that need to be added to the IEP to better meet the students learning needs Works thoroughly together with the classroom teachers (General Educator and Special Educator) Coordinates with the other service providers or specialists that may work with the student, such as, a speech therapist, occupational therapist (OT), physical therapist (PT), and/or play therapist Works closely with the parents of the child (sometimes it may also be in their home for observations or training sessions) What are the benefits of having a Special Education Itinerant Teacher in an inclusion classroom?
