Grade Level: 2nd Grade Content Area: Social Studies Beyond-the-Basic Productivity Tool Used: Timeliner Standards Addressed: SS2H1 The student will read about and describe the lives of historical figures in Georgia history. a. Identify the contributions made by these historic figures: James Oglethorpe, Tomochichi, and Mary Musgrove (founding of Georgia); Sequoyah (development of a Cherokee alphabet); Jackie Robinson (sports); Martin Luther King, Jr. (civil rights); Jimmy Carter (leadership and human rights). Blooms Level of Critical Thinking: Remembering Understanding Applying Analyzing Evaluating Creating Description of how to implement in the class: The teacher will introduce the activity by modeling how to collect data and add the information to Timeliner. The teacher will lead the students through the steps of creating a timeline using Timeliner. After reviewing how the students can use the software, they will be put into a group to research one of the historical figures from the 2nd grade standards. Using Timeliner, the students will choose how to display the information/data that they collected. When the students have finished putting together their timelines, they could display their research on their historical character to the class using the Timeliner software. A screen shot could also be taken of their timeline and hung up in the classroom for all the students to be able to see. Level of Technology Implementation (LoTi): This activity has a LoTi level 4 because the students are allowed to collect and graph information on their own.
