Metabolism Learning Objectives Checklist and Self-Assessment

2.1 I am able to explain how biological systems use free

energy based on empirical data that all organisms require
constant energy input to maintain organization, to grow and to
reproduce. [See SP 6.2]

2.2 I am able to justify a scientific claim that free energy is

required for living systems to maintain organization, to grow
or to reproduce, but that multiple strategies exist in different
living systems. [See SP 6.1]

2.3 I am able to predict how changes in free energy

availability affect organisms, populations and ecosystems.
[See SP 6.4]

2.4 I am able to use representations to pose scientific
questions about what mechanisms and structural features
allow organisms to capture, store and use free energy. [See SP
1.4, 3.1]

2.5 I am able to construct explanations of the mechanisms
and structural features of cells that allow organisms to capture,
store or use free energy. [See SP 6.2]

4.17 I am able to analyze data to identify how molecular

interactions affect structure and function. [See SP 5.1]

Guess

1-using a video podcast
2-from my textbook
3-from in-class discussion
4-from a lab
5-from a peer
6-another way (describe)

Learning Objectives
These are the learning targets we will cover during this
unit of study. Use them to guide you through everything
we learn during this unit.

Confident

The learning objectives for this unit are below. Use this as a checklist to measure your level of understanding as
we work through each lesson, activity or lab investigation. If youre confident you understand an objective, mark
confident. If youre still a little unsure and need more help with the objective, mark unsure. If you continue to
guess at what the objective means, mark guess. If you have more Us and Gs, schedule a tutoring time with me
and lets convert those Us and Gs to Cs. J
