Review what we did yesterday with creating a topic sentence and


supporting details about thanksgiving using the graphic organizer
Go over why each part is important (differentiating between detail
and topic sentence)

Thanksgiving
Topic sentence: there are many great things about thanksgiving
Detail 1: the food was really yummy
Detail 2: my family visited from out of town
Detail 3: we did not have school
Conclusion: thanksgiving was great!

Pair up to play a game (3 groups of 2) (pair them up with whoever
they are sitting next to)
Give each team a white board and tell them that I will ask questions
and they will write A,B,C,D on it depending on which answer they
choose
A group of sentences about one main idea is a A-topic B-detail C-

Paragraphs usually contain A-a topic sentence B-1 or more detail

BAG GAME
In the bag will be a topic sentence and 4 details on different pieces of
paper. Each student will pick out a piece of paper and together as a
team they need to put them in order with the topic sentence at the
top and the supporting details at the bottom

In Michigan we get to experience all four seasons.
In Spring plants and flowers bloom.
In Summer you spend a lot of time outside playing or in the water.
In Fall the leaves change colors and fall.
In Winter its cold and snowy.
Paragraph 2
Throughout the year we celebrate many holidays.
During Thanksgiving we eat a lot of turkey.
On Halloween we get to dress up and get a lot of candy.

During Christmas and Hanukkah we get presents.
Paragraph 3
There are so many different ways to score points in sports.
For basketball you need to dribble and get the ball in the basket.
For soccer you need to kick the ball into the goal.
For football you need to run with the ball into the end zone.
For baseball you need to hit the ball and run all of the bases.
Go over what a topic sentence is
Go over what a supporting detail is
Share how they will use what they learned today with putting the
topic sentence and supporting details in order to finish their graphic
organizer from the day before on a topic of their choice
If time go over their topics and have them brainstorm a little about
what they could write about
