THE HEARTLANDS TRIBUTE TO

VETERANS MEMORIAL PROJECT

Families of United States Military Veterans:
Central City Public School students, in cooperation with American Legion Post #6,
are asking for your help collecting information and stories from local Veterans and their
families to enhance the new Heartlands Tribute to Veterans Memorial in Lone
Tree Park. These invaluable recollections might come from the direct personal
experiences of soldiers as well as indirect experiences from the Home Front. Examples
of these ancillary portrayals might include news accounts, editorials and propaganda; the
effects of rationing and victory gardens; experiences with groups such as the North
Platte Canteen, Womens Army Auxiliary Corps; and employment for companies
manufacturing materials of war such as the Cornhusker Army Ammunition Plant, the
Hastings Naval Ammunition Depot, or the Martin Bomber Plant near Omaha.
CCPS students will plan and conduct personal interviews at a time and place
convenient to you. These stories will be compiled, edited and added to the Memorial
website. Visitors to the Heartlands Tribute to Veterans Memorial site can access these
narratives by scanning a Quick Response (QR) chip which will be embedded into the each
of the walls.
