Mr.

Heemstra,
Thank you so much for your very helpful response. I am not saying that she
needs to diet either. My Mom has Type 1 diabetes and my Dad had Type 2 so I
live in fear that her poor eating habits and lack of activity will result in
earlier onset of this awful disease. I have made it a goal for the summer to
help her improve her fitness and eating habits and to start middle school on
the right note. You have been so kind. Thanks again for the input.
Wishing a great summer!

Parents Name,
I understand.

Thank you for being interested in her health and fitness.

Her fitness grade is based on either meeting the set fitness standards or more
importantly improving in scores regardless of meeting the fitness standard.
Her Fitness report Card will have her scores and class averages that I have
recorded for the past 20 years and the fitness standard for her age level.
The fitness report card will be coming home with her report card. Or maybe she
received it yesterday.
I believe effort and overall health and conditioning are all pieces of the
puzzle. Note, I am not saying she didn't try.
I believe the best choice for her is getting regular exercise, and limiting
sugars and fatty snacks. I do not think she needs to be thinking of dieting
to lose weight but more so exercise to strengthen and tone and build a healthy
heart and lungs.
She is old enough to do light weight multiple rep workouts or body weight
workout for strength. Most importantly I believe teens need cardiovascular
exercise like running, biking even walking if brisk enough to work the heart
and lungs. Don't over look the value of playing games as part of exercise, for
example playing basketball or tennis anything that gets the heart pumping and
the lungs working harder than at rest will give help her reach her goals.

Below are a few excellent resources. Please feel free to contact me if you
have further questions. You can also reach me at home over the summer.

Comments: Hi. I have reviewed my daughters progress report for PE and it
appears she has declined in her fitness testing. Would you please provide me
with the levels of each category that she should be at by the Fall of 6th
grade? We need to work on her general health this summer including fitness
and healthy eating. I would appreciate any suggestions you could provide,
i.e. youth exercise programs, websites or whatever.
Please keep this inquiry
confidential as I would never want to hurt her feelings.
Thanks in advance
for your response.
