Progressive Exhibit Project

You are being contacted by the Exeter Historical Society. The curator of the museum
wants to add an exhibit on the Progressive Era to the collection. The has selected you to create
the new exhibit, but he has given you some guidelines to follow.
The Progressive Era was a period of immense change in America society. People began
to think that the government should tackle some of the social and economic issues facing the
country. Many reforms sought to produce a more efficient, democratic, and accountable
government. The curator of the museum would like to highlight three of the most effective
reforms made during the Progressive Era to display in the museum.
Using your notes, the textbook, the internet, and any other sources we have seen in class,
select what you think are the three most important reforms made during the Progressive Era.
Highlight these three reforms in your exhibit.
With each reform, you must provide the following in writing, displayed on your exhibit:

What societal problems led to this reform? What issue was the reform
trying to solve?
What group of people advocated for this reform? (Men, Women,
African-Americans, more than one?)
When did this reform take effect?
Was it successful at the time? How did people react to this reform?
Can we see any aspect of this reform in our current society?

In addition to answering the question above, each reform must have at least ONE photo and
ONE physical artifact. The artifact can be any object that you feel acts as a representation of
either your reform or the issue it sought to solve. In total, you must have three photos and three
artifacts.
Remember, creativity, color, and design are important aspects of any exhibit. You want your
exhibit to be visually appealing while still being informative. Good luck, have fun, see Mr. Kelly
with any questions or concerns you have.
