Letter of Recommendation

It is my great pleasure to recommend Ms. Alyssa Miller for the position of a teacher in grades
Pre-K to 4. I have known Ms. Miller as a student working in my office for a year and a half. In
my role as Interim Dean, I come in contact with many student workers. I am fortunate to say that
as a rule, they are highly professional and demonstrate a strong work ethic. Even with this high
standard, Alyssa stands out on many levels.
Alyssa is a strong student with a 3.63 GPA in our Early Childhood Education program and is
poised to graduate with honors this spring. Through her coursework, Alyssa has had numerous
field experiences before embarking on student teaching that include settings such as the College
Hill Learning Center (pre-school) and elementary schools in the York and Lancaster school
districts. These pre-student teaching activities involved direct teaching as well as small group
activities with ESL students and those with behavioral difficulties. In addition, she is a volunteer
at Kunkel Elementary School in Middletown where she assists teachers in the classroom and in
school events. She also works as a nanny for four children ranging in ages of 1 month to 6 years,
providing additional opportunities for her to apply her curricular skills.
In addition to these work experiences, Alyssa engages in a variety of activities that enhance
her development as a teacher and the many roles such an occupation demands. She worked as an
Event Staff member at Millersville University and assisted visitors to the various events at our
institution. Students in these roles are chosen carefully as they are the face of the university.
Alyssa also worked with the University Activities Board and assisted in planning many extracurricular events for our university community.
I have gotten to know and very much appreciate Alyssa in her role as student worker in my
office. She was extremely personable, thoughtful and demonstrated a terrific work ethic. I asked
my Administrative Manager to describe Alyssa and she readily remarked on her high level of
professionalism and unfailing initiative in approaching tasks. Alyssa was successful in
appropriately interacting with a variety of constituents, including students, staff, faculty,
administrators and community guests. It is difficult not to have a smile on your face after
interacting with her.

If I had children in school, I would want them to have a teacher like Alyssa. Any child who
would be fortunate enough to have Alyssa as a teacher will benefit from not only her teaching
skills but her warm, caring and personable demeanor. She will also be a terrific colleague who
can be counted on to get things done and do so with a smile on her face. I give Alyssa my highest
