Physics 8A Lab Makeup Policy

If you are unable to attend your regularly scheduled lab section and complete the scheduled lab, please
follow the steps below to Make-up the lab. Please, only try to schedule and complete a makeup lab if
it is truly necessary for you to do so due to illness or other extenuating circumstances.

1. Email your GSI to let them know that you are unable to attend the regularly scheduled lab and
you plan to make it up in another section, either that same week or the following week.
2. Within the Files section of bCourses, you will find a schedule that lists all of the lab sections,
the GSIs that are responsible for that section, and the day and time that section meets. Identify
another lab section (either in Lecture 1 or in Lecture 2) that you would be able to attend and
complete a makeup lab.
3. After you have identified another laboratory section that you can attend, you should contact the
GSI who leads that section, along with your own GSI, to ask if it is alright for you to attend their
section and complete the makeup lab. You can find the contact and section information for all
of the GSIs on bCourses under the General Course Documents.
4. Attend the lab that you have arranged to complete the makeup laboratory in. Make sure to
check in with the GSI at the beginning of class.
5. Hand your lab into the GSI at the end of the laboratory section. This GSI will make sure your lab
gets to your own GSI and that it is graded.

*Note: Labs will be held in each and every lab section during the week a lab is scheduled. One
laboratory apparatus will remain set up in each laboratory classroom for the week following the
regularly scheduled lab. This makes it possible for you to schedule a makeup lab in any lab section the
week that a lab is scheduled, as well as the following week. However, it is in your best interest to
schedule a makeup lab during the week that it is regularly scheduled, as you will be afforded the
opportunity to work within another lab group rather than by yourself to complete the lab. Additionally,
some labs are rather difficulty if not altogether impossible to complete by yourself, so you should always
begin the process of making up a lab as soon as you realize that you cannot attend your regularly
scheduled lab.
