Theselectedlocationpresentedanumberofdesignchallenges,thechiefofwhichwas
controlofanoverabundanceoftropicalsun.TheCrystalPavilionisanasymmetricsteel
framedglassbuildingwithirregularlyangledfacades.Thiscombinedwithitslocation,one
degreenorthoftheequator,thestructurereceivessunfromallsides.Tosolvethis
problem,FTLDesignEngineeringStudiowasbroughton.Theresultisasolarshading
conceptofcontinuouslinearwhitebandsthatprovidethedesiredshading,UVprotection
forthehandbagsandservesasthebackdroponwhichfortheinteriorbuildout.The
shadingsystemcoversallinteriorwallandceilingelementsandcallstomindthesailsand
mastsofasailboat.Thoughnotstrictlynautical,theatmosphereisMarinoandLVallthe
way.
