Dear students and parents,

Welcome to Chinese 1. I am Chinese 1 teacher Louise Zhu-Zhu Lsoshi. I am a native Mandarin Chinese speaker from
Beijing, China. I have taught Chinese classes for community Chinese schools and public schools for many years. My
teaching strategy is teaching and learning knowledge with fun, because students will learn more efficiently if they are
really interested in Chinese language and culture. However, all students must work hard to finish my fun assignments to
get progress in Chinese classes.
Course Description
Chinese 1 provides an introduction to the Chinese language and stresses proficiency in listening and speaking skills.
Students are challenged as well to develop beginning proficiency in reading and writing characters. The curriculum
focuses on pronunciations and vocabularies in the context of daily situations designed to expose students to the Chinese
culture and customs.
We use Chinese Link-Elementary Chinese as our textbook. Major contents of Chinese 1:

Classroom terms and greetings
Introduce self, family and friends, school and daily life
Vocabulary: self, family/home, school, daily life
Grammar: basic sentence structures and parts of speech
Goals and Objectives

Pronounce Chinese correctly with the help of PinYin phonetic system.

Engage in basic conversations or writing in Chinese to provide and obtain and present information, express
feelings and emotions, exchange opinions, understand and interpret spoken Chinese on a variety of topics.
Listening and speaking are limited to short, and some sentence-length material, particularly where context is
strongly supportive of understanding or expression. Students can interpret the written language in areas of where
vocabulary has been learned.
