Dear Judges:
I hope you are having a pleasant day. My name is Alyssa Bowey, I am a senior at St. James High School. I
have been an honor roll student for a majority of my school years. My favorite subjects are human science
and choir. I have been in choir since 8th grade and continued singing in advanced choirs throughout my
four years of high school. I have always been interested in learning new things especially when it comes
to human science. The study and interpretation of the experiences, activities, constructs, and artifacts
associated with human beings fascinates me. As I approach graduation I am excited to start college and
begin to pursue a career in occupational therapy.
Volunteering at a local assisted living facility motivated me to choose my topic. My mother works at an
assisted living facility so when I started needing volunteering hours for school clubs I was in, my mother
suggested I get my hours at her workplace. I discovered I loved working with the elderly and that is when
I decided I wanted to be an occupational therapist for the elderly. During research phase of the Senior
Exploration, I learned how powerful of an impact occupational therapy has on the elderly. The research
also helped me prepare for my future by informing me on what occupational therapist do on a daily basis
and encouraged me towards my career choice of being an occupational therapist.
At first, the idea of Senior Exploration scared and over whelmed me. After we started the process of
Senior Exploration it became less stressful but it did teach me how to manage my time correctly and to
have responsibility. Senior Exploration made me accomplish my fear of public speaking and taught me to
keep calm under pressure. Senior Exploration has substantially effected my senior year, it has showed me
how to prioritize my responsibilities and has caused me to grow as a person.

to willingly share your time with me to listen and learn more about not only me but my experience during
Senior Exploration.
