Dear Award Selection Committee Members:
It is with great pleasure that I write this letter of recommendation in support of the nomination of Mrs. Amy
Gleason for the Agnes Meyer Outstanding Teacher Award. As my colleague for the last ten years, I have
witnessed the positive impact that Amy has had on our students, school, community, and the overall
teaching profession. It is for these reasons that I truly believe that Amy should be recognized for her hard
work and dedication through this distinct honor.
Mrs. Gleason is an inspirational teacher who reaches out to all of her students on a personal level in order
to engage and motivate them. She is devoted to maintaining a standard of excellence in every aspect of
education. She develops and delivers a structured instructional program in a meaningful way for her
students. By enriching and modifying the curriculum to meet diverse needs, she assures success for all
while instilling in her students a desire to learn, achieve, and reach their personal goals. The faith Mrs.
Gleason has in her students is the driving force behind individual student achievement. Students in Mrs.
Gleasons class feel an increased sense of self-esteem and ability to succeed. As a result of Mrs. Gleasons
sense of humor and creative teaching style, her students are able to better grasp difficult science and social
studies concepts. From dropping eggs out the window of the third floor to dressing in Greek costumes to
share persuasive city-state debate, Mrs. Gleasons students are always involved in hands-on activities that
make learning more meaningful.
Amy strives to make communication amongst colleagues and the CCES community a priority. In doing so,
she has developed an excellent rapport with staff, students, and parents. She has been a valued member of
the Chevy Chase Leadership Team, where she attended monthly meetings in which she collaborated with
all stakeholders, and took part in key decisions that affected student achievement, and the overall school
environment. As the sixth grade team leader for our school, Amy has also served as the liaison between the
school administration and the sixth grade team for many years, ensuring that her team was well-informed
and had the necessary information to do their jobs to the best of their ability.
Mrs. Gleasons tremendous leadership and communication skills have allowed her to gain the utmost
respect of her colleagues, as well as the parent community. She is always willing to lend a hand where
needed and shares many of her ideas at staff meetings. Mrs. Gleason is an expert on the Promethean board
and is often called upon by colleagues and administrators to share new strategies. She recently shared an
interactive way for students to present information called Animoto. Since her training with staff, many
teachers are now using Animoto to motivate their students. As someone new to using the Google Chrome
books, I appreciate Amys willingness to help. She always offers to show me new strategies and ideas that I
can implement with my students.
Amy works diligently; serving many hours beyond what is required on a daily basis. Amy is an integral part
of the positive learning environment for both teachers and students at Chevy Chase Elementary School. Her
concern for children, enthusiasm for teaching, and excellent leadership skills make her exceptionally
deserving of this prestigious award. Thank you in advance for your consideration.

Sincerely,
Diane Vincent, Reading Specialist
