Field IDU: Reflective Essay
There are a lot of things that I can learn from field trip to Yogyakarta. We visit
so many places where we can learn a new knowledge about human rights, fairness
and development. Visiting the places helps me to learn that none of us is perfect.
There are someone who has a hard time because of their disability, status, economic
status, and many more. We are learn that people in our own community is actually a
very lucky people. Living in a good condition where we can get a good facility in our
lives, good school, good environment, good water, education, living in life without
sickness or disability is a bless for us. We have to be grateful because we have to open
our eyes that theyre a lot of people down there who live in poverty, disability and
many more.
The place that helps me learn something about the world is Yakkum
Rehabilitation Center. Yakkum is one of the kinds of NGO that we visit. Learning
about disable people really help me to understand how grateful I am that Im able to
born and live in this world with normal body condition. Interacting with a child
named Dika who has disability or sickness called cerebral Palsy where he has
problem with their middle brain so that have a hardly interact with anything (Hold
things, communicated, etc). Through Biblical Studies principle I learn that Jesus will
seek and cure people who has a sickness like disable person, someone who has
disadvantages in their life. Jesus can heal them with the power of God by saying a
word and the person is cured. Connecting with the English principle about human

right, we are not like Jesus we have able to help them with giving them chance to
show their specialty, help or support them veraciously, interact with them, and treat
them equally. People like is also a human like us but the different is only because of
the body condition and that is why people like Dika has the same right as us to be
treated equally, although there is not cured for them physically but there is a cure for
them mentally, support them that in this life is hard as long we fight and work hard we
will able to become the best.
Visiting Bethesda hospital learning about HIV, I learn that although with
sickness that cant ever be cured people also has an equal right just like the right that
we have. I also learn that the Human Rights of Privacy also relevant with the topic
that we learn in the hospital. HIV is a sickness that is also able to become peoples
stigma. HIV is a stigma for people because it can be cause of the very bad habit that
people have like using drugs, having sexual relationship and much more. Keep the
privacy of the sickness also has been put in the UU in Indonesia. Someone who has
known that one of their friend have HIV should keep it secret because if he or she
who knows spread the word about it, we have right to sue them because violated the
rights of privacy that the person who has HIV because they spread the stigma of the
HIV positive person. But they need fairness in this life. They need to be treated fairly,
have equal right like us and they are the same just like us, the created or the son and
daughter of God.
Visiting Sukunan Village also helps use to learn about development. We only
learn that Trash only an object that we should throw away, but it is actually not. The
have the process where they able to keep the environment healthy and clean such us
using the trash because something that s useful. Using something that is disgusting
like urine to become the liquid that can make the plants able to grow healthy through

many process to sterilize it. Process to make something that can give benefit to the
environment. Learn that people in this village actually live in normal live and I learn
that someone already complain about the facility that the village has when the
homestay happen in Tuesday but we also learn that life is hard. The village is actually
not a poor village, they have clean water, good quality of food and if someone already
complain about it how if we stay in the home where the people actually live in
poverty, no good shelter facility, no good quality of food and such. We live in a good
condition of economic status, life in a good facility where we can have anything
easily and learn that life is not easy if we complain of something that is not good we
have to look down that they are more people who live in poverty.
In conclusion we learn that before we complain of something that we cant get
we have to look down that they are more people who live in poverty, disability and
that is why we as the educated people in our society we have to concur with our life
and grateful for all the thing that we have because God blessed us with living in
normal body condition, living in good facility and everything. All the thing is a bless
of God, and everyone has the same right although they different.
