The ABCs of 1st Grade

Absences: If your child misses school, please send

Birthdays: Birthdays may be celebrated during
lunch (10:45-11:15 am). Cupcakes or individial ice
cream cups may be given to students during this time
only. Items cannot be homemade.

Communication: Communication between home and
school is very important. Feel free to email me at
TiffanyWalker@LancasterISD.org, or call me at 972218-1590, or write a note in their S.A.F.A.R.I. binder
if you have a question. The best way to contact me is
through email.

Dismissal: School ends at 2:45 pm. If your child is
to go home a different way than his or her normal
manner you must send a written note.

Emergencies: The school may need to contact you
in case of an emergency. If your phone number or
address changes, please notify the school.

Family: The students and I spend a lot of time
together and consider one another part of our

Homework: Homework is reinforcement of skills
learned in class in preparation for testing. It also
allows me to review concepts, re-teach, or move on.
Your child will have homework Monday through
Thursday and all homework will need to be completed
and turned in on Friday of each week. Homework
can consist of written work, studying, or reading. If
your child is having trouble with it, please contact me.
We will review and see what he/ she may be
struggling with.

Important Papers Important notices will be sent
home periodically. Please check your childs folder
for important papers every night.

Jean Day: Jeans may be worn each Friday for
the cost of $1.

Lunch: Our lunch time will be 10:35 11:05 am.
Students will be responsible for turning in their lunch
money to the cashiers in the cafeteria lines. If you
would like to you may also add money to their lunch
accounts on the school districts website.

Money: If you are sending money to school, please
put it in an envelope and have it labeled with your
child's name, homeroom teacher's name, date, and
event for money. Often times a student comes to
school with money and does not remember what it is
for.

Newsletters:

Organization: Good organizational habits begin to
form in first grade. To help keep your child
organized through the year he/she will be using a
folder. This folder, which will also have your child's
behavior log, spelling list, homework, notes, and
graded papers in it, must be brought to school every
dayno excuses!

Practice: Just like any other thing you expect to
be good at, the skills learned in school need to be
practiced. Please provide time at home after school
for your child to practice their math facts and
reading.

Spelling: On Monday of each week, your child will
receive a list of words to study for Fridays spelling
test. I will send home a spelling spiral with a list of
activities that your student may use to help prepare
for their spelling test. It is not required that your
child return their spelling spiral.

Unique: I believe that each child has unique
learning styles; therefore I will be providing
instruction to try and meet your childs needs.

Volunteers: We will be seeking volunteers
throughout the school year for class activities,
projects, field trips, etc. Please contact me if you
would like to volunteer your time!

Reading: We will be doing lots of reading in 1st
grade. Each student should read at least 30 minutes
each night and write down the information on their
