if you have a question. The best way to contact me is
through email.

Conferences: Parent /teacher relationship is very

important for the success of the students. My

conference time is 9:50-10:40 am on Tuesday,

to set up a conference, please contact me in advance
so that we can make sure that there are no other

Field Trips: We will attend two field trips this

G
Grades: Your child will receive numerical grades

this year. The value of grades is very important to

reiterate to your child. The grades your child earns
will allow them to pass or fail any subject area. If
you child continues to fail any subject area, there is
the potential for them to be retained in first grade.
Please remember to review your childs graded papers
in their folder. Grades may also be viewed online.
Please contact Mrs. Gray in the front office to
receive your childs login information.

H
Homework: Homework is reinforcement of skills
learned in class in preparation for testing. It also
allows me to review concepts, re-teach, or move on.
Your child will have homework Monday through
Thursday and all homework will need to be completed
and turned in on Friday of each week. Homework
can consist of written work, studying, or reading. If
your child is having trouble with it, please contact me.
We will review and see what he/ she may be
struggling with.

I
Important Papers Important notices will be sent
home periodically. Please check your childs folder
for important papers every night.

J
Jean Day: Jeans may be worn each Friday for
the cost of $1.

Jungle Jobs: Each week, students will have a

Jungle Job in the classroom. This will help to
reinforce responsibility in our classroom.

Jungle Jar: To further encourage group

motivation for good behavior I will keep a Jungle Jar

on my desk. Every time the children are all trying
their best, do a super job walking through the halls,
receive a compliment from another adult, etc. we will
add a Jungle Ball to the jar. When the jar is full
students will be allowed to vote on a special party or
treat for the class.

Kindness: I have a 0 Tolerance rule for unkind

behavior. This includes actions and words. Kindness
is expected out of everyone.

L
Lunch: Our lunch time will be 10:35 11:05 am.
Students will be responsible for turning in their lunch
money to the cashiers in the cafeteria lines. If you
would like to you may also add money to their lunch
accounts on the school districts website.
www.lancasterisd.org.

M
Money: If you are sending money to school, please
put it in an envelope and have it labeled with your
child's name, homeroom teacher's name, date, and
event for money. Often times a student comes to
school with money and does not remember what it is
for.

N
Newsletters:

Please review your childs folder

each week for school-wide newsletters and a monthly
newsletter from me.

O
Organization: Good organizational habits begin to
form in first grade. To help keep your child
organized through the year he/she will be using a
folder. This folder, which will also have your child's
behavior log, spelling list, homework, notes, and
graded papers in it, must be brought to school every
dayno excuses!

P
Practice: Just like any other thing you expect to
be good at, the skills learned in school need to be
practiced. Please provide time at home after school
for your child to practice their math facts and
reading.

reading. I will collect the reading logs at the end of

each month.

S
Spelling: On Monday of each week, your child will
receive a list of words to study for Fridays spelling
test. I will send home a spelling spiral with a list of
activities that your student may use to help prepare
for their spelling test. It is not required that your
child return their spelling spiral.

Safari Shop: Students will be able to earn

tickets for good behavior and classroom participation.

A ticket economy will be set up in our classroom.
Students will have the opportunity to go to the
Safari Shop if he/she must have earned a certain
amount of tickets.

T
Talking:

Talking to friends about feelings and

ideas is an important part of learning. There are,
however, appropriate and inappropriate times to
talk. I understand that breaking rules about talking
may seem less important than others, but I
encourage you to support me in the enforcement of
this rule, because it does affect your child's learning
as well as other children.

Textbooks: Textbooks will not be sent home with

first grade students.

U
Unique: I believe that each child has unique
learning styles; therefore I will be providing
instruction to try and meet your childs needs.
