Materials needed: Music from Frozen, drumsticks


Standards:
Strand 1 Concept 5 PO2: PO 2. reading/ decoding sixteenth notes and sixteenth note
patterns and simple syncopation in 2/4, 3/4 and 4/4 time signatures.
Strand 1 Concept 5 PO5: defining terms and symbols used in music notation as
identified in previous grade levels.
Objectives and assessment:
Objective(s)/Assessment:
Students will read through the Music from Frozen and play correct notes and rhythms. Time
permitting, students will begin to play with dynamic contrast and correct articulations as written in
the music.
Personal objective: Keep talking to a minimum by making feedback concise and
pacing fast

Introduction: Lets get out Frozen. Starting from the top! Well try to get through the whole
thing.
Procedure:
Beginning syncopted rhythm (low brass, saxophones)
- Teacher demonstrates saying rhythm, students respond
- Students play rhythm
Read- through
- Count off beginning and click drumsticks for tempo (substitute for metronome)
- Students play until they mess up
- Stop at rehearsal numbers for students to regroup
Ending (m. 114-end)
- Last 4 bars
- 114-end several times aim for clarity of sixteenth note part

** Differentiated Instruction:
1. Some students work in practice rooms to pass off other parts of the song
with Mr. Pollock

Closure: Great read on this today lets move onto Thunderbolt.
