Dear Mr. Keith Ellis,
I am writing to you with great enthusiasm in submission of my resume for your review and consideration for the
Residence Life Coordinator position at the University of South Carolina. Having the opportunity to work in a
department that challenges its students through innovative programming and provides exceptional residential
experiences is an exciting opportunity for personal and professional growth. I believe my initiative, passion for
student development, and prior experiences make me the ideal candidate for this position.
My current role as an Assistant Coordinator for Residence Life at Florida State University affords me the
opportunity to work with a diverse population of individuals, including residents, faculty, and staff. As the cosupervisor of my residential complex, I have had the opportunity to train and develop a Receptionist student
staff that works as a pivotal role within the community, providing customer service to our residents and guests. I
have collaborated with the Living Learning Communities housed in the residence halls I oversee, building
relationships with the faculty of each community to best serve our students and continue providing effective
programming. My role also enables me to serve as a conduct officer, which allows me to gain a better
understanding of students decision-making process and have educational conversations concerning those
decisions. The most rewarding aspect of my assistantship is the opportunity to serve as the direct supervisor to
my Resident Assistants. It has been through this position that I have been able to build strong and unique
personal relationships with each staff member. I have worked to challenge these staff members both personally
and professionally to promote their holistic development and have been able to guide these student staff
members to create an environment for students to call home.
In addition to the significant portion of my job dedicated to working with students, I am also involved in the
overall management of the halls; including programming, budgeting, occupancy management, organizing work
schedules, and overseeing building openings and closings. These elements of my daily work have allowed me to
hone my administrative skills and gain the ability to simultaneously manage multiple deadlines. I have also
served as part of a duty rotation for a 3,500 student residential area comprised of community, suite, and
apartment style buildings. It is my previous on-call experiences that have provided me the confidence and
critical thinking that would allow me to successfully handle any crisis I might be faced with as a Residence Life
Coordinator.
I am confident that my passion for student success, my personal initiative, and my team-oriented attitude would
allow me to be a successful in the Residence Life Coordinator position at the University of South Carolina. I
would enjoy speaking with you further to discuss, in detail, how I am a match for the dynamic environment
your department provides. Please do not hesitate to contact me by phone at (770) 833-5340 or by email at
kokeefe1990@gmail.com if you have questions. Thank you for your time and consideration.
Sincerely,

Kaitlyn OKeefe
