Apps Developed for People on the Autism Spectrum

Russell Scaramella serves as the managing member and founder

of US Oil Holdings LLC, through which he makes regular
donations for good causes. For example, a Georgia-based
operation owned by Russ Scaramella has contributed some
$35,000 for the Walk Now for Autism Speaks event.
Autism Speaks is a national organization that advocates for
persons on the spectrum of autism disorders that affect 1 in 88
children. Autism Speaks funds research into treatment,
prevention, and a possible cure. Recently the organization,
through its philanthropic venture affiliate, sponsored a competition
among app developers at Google's office in Cambridge,
Massachusetts. Winners received prize money to develop their
ideas.
First place of $25,000 went to PuzzlePiece, which presented
customizable stories that helped parents teach living skills.
Second place ($15,000) was given for the Naturalistic
Observation Diagnostic Assessment, an app that helped screen
for behaviors that could indicate autism. The third place winner,

chosen by the audience, consisted of $10,000 for InfiniTeach,

which helped parents and teachers tailor learning experiences for
children with developmental disabilities.
