Dr. Jane Goodall

Born on April 3 1934

She has not died yet

Today she is inspiring action on behalf of endangered species, particularly

chimpanzees and encouraging people to do their part. She set sail to Africa in
1957 at the age of 23. She arrived in 1960. She watched the chimpanzees and
David Greybeard a chimpanzee he feed on a baby bush pig. The chimpanzees
use tools to help them (leafs as spoons). So she is famous!!

National Geographic

They film animals in the wild to see what they do in the wild.

Coyote
Coyotes live in America. Their population are likely at an all-time high. They eat
almost anything. They can run at 64 kilometres per hour. In spring they can give
birth to 3-12 pups. They are smaller than wolves. They live up to 14 years.

How to save animals

We can save animals by trying to stop pollution, deforestation, commercial

overexploitation and poaching. Animals might be revolting or dangerous but that

does not mean we are allowed to kill them all of them play good and important
roles on the Earth and nature. Some roles at first wont show until later. We
almost have got no idea of all the repercussions involved in the disappearance of
a single animal population in a corner of a forest, swamp or river. If we lose too
many animals at the base the food chain will break. A killer whale will affect the
diet of a bald eagle in Alaska. See one animal can affect another animal on a
different element/place.
What can YOU do?
Every one of us is part of this world, and so what we do--or dont do--has an
impact on the world around us. We can all do small things, and ask our parents
to do small things, too. The more people there are who do small things every
day, well, they all start adding up to big things! Here are some things you can
do:

Dont dump! Do not pour paint or chemicals into the ground or into the gutter. If
you do, it will get into the water we drink, and into the lakes and oceans where it
may harm the animals that live in the water and on the shore.

Let worms eat your garbage! Americans throw out lots of food scraps and
leftovers. If you cant eat it all, let the worms finish it for you by making a
compost heap. Use the compost to feed your plants instead of chemical
fertilizers.

Reduce-Reuse-Recycle! Try to reduce the amount of garbage you throw away.

Recycle paper, cardboard, cans, bottles and plastic. Buy things that dont come
packed in lots of cardboard and plastic; buy bigger quantities--its cheaper and
theres less packaging. Buy products that come in containers and packages
made of recycled materials.

Got an A+ on your homework? Great! Now use the back of the paper to make
notes for your next assignment! When youve used both sides of the paper, you
can recycle into your compost heap or rip it up to make mulch for the garden.

Make your voice heard! Find the name of your mayor, governor, senator,
representative and the President of the United States in your telephone book.
Write one letter a month to one of them and tell them what you think about
something that affects the environment in your neighbourhood, town, county,
state or the country. You can even send email to the President, Vice President
and many senators and congressional representatives. You can find their email
addresses pointing your web browser to

Degradation
Deforestation is the action to clear the Earths forests in a big scale by human for
their needs.
There are lots of negative impacts but these are the main ones:

Firstly, this is a very affective impact on the wild lives that lives in forests
and some of other animals because animals that live in the forest will lose
their habitats and will be forced to migrate to another habitat that has
been taken so will be lots of problems like: territorial conflicts, lack of food
available, migration disturbanceetc. There are also some specific

animals that can only survive in a specific habitat

Secondly, forest degradation can injure animals, plants or maybe
human(s) or cause global warming due to forest fires (usually cause by

accidents of drought/lightings.
Next, animals or humans that live near a degraded area may catch

diseases or pests.
Then, after the trees are removed, soil erosion occurs and the rain will
flush the nutrients in the soil, causing the soil to die.

Finally, trees play an important role in nature so we need to be careful and

protect them.
Causes:
Logging(cutting wood for money/space) 14%
Mining (trees must be chopped down to build mines.)15%
Farming 36%
Oil and Gas (cut down trees to extract energy underground and

build roads to access sites) 20%

Civil wars/city expand 15%
And more

Facts:

Brazil has the highest annual rate of deforestation today.

Atlantic coast of Brazil has lost 90-95% of its rainforest.

Central America has 50% of its rainforests.
South America has 70% of its rainforests.
The Philippines have lost 90% of its rainforests!
Madagascar has lost 95% of its rainforests!
El Salvador has lost 70-85% of its rainforest due to heavy bombing during the civil war 19841985.

Sumatra has 15% of its rainforests left.

Only 6% of Central Africa's forests are protected by law.

Global rates of rainforest deforestation:

o
o
o
o

Two US football fields (1 hectare) per second

Bigger than New York City (86,000 hectare) per day
An area larger than Poland (31 million hectare) per year
As this rate 50,000 species extinct each year(137 species each day)

How to help:
Always use both sides of paper when writing, drawing, photo-copying, faxing, etc.
Recycle paper, cans, glass, and plastic.
Read the newspaper on-line.
Buy paper products made from recycled paper: notebook paper, paper towels, toilet paper,

books, etc.
Use pencils until they are stubs! Think of pencils as gold (you'll never lose them if you do).
Encourage your parents, relatives, and friends to buy furniture and wood that is Certified.
That means the wood was legally cut-down.

If you buy a product and you notice they use wood chips to package it, write to the company
and suggest they use another packaging material.
Trees get cut down for cattle to graze. Instead of eating meat, think of eating other sources of
protein such as fish, soy, beans, whole-wheat, and nuts.
Buy organic fruits and vegetables. That means there are no insecticides or pesticides
(poisonous chemicals) sprayed on the food. If these chemicals kill insects and pests that try
and eat the vegetables, think about how harmful they can be to you and the environment.
Instead of buying gold or diamonds, which are mined and cause environmental damage,
consider jewelry that is made from materials that are not mined...such as glass.
Encourage your parents, relatives, and friends to drive fuel efficient cars that get good gas
mileage. Hybrid and bio-diesel cars get great mileage and use less or no gasoline.
Even better, whenever possible, walk, bike, carpool or use mass transit (bus or train).
Save electricity by turning off lights, t.v., radio, computer, etc when you are not using them.
Save water by NOT taking baths; instead take quick showers (turning off the water while you
soap up) and then turning it back on to rinse quickly.
While washing your hands and brushing your teeth, turn off the water. You'll save gallons if
you do.
When washing the dishes or your parent's car, turn off the water while washing it with soap. Rinse
quickly after washing. Pollution
Almost everywhere are filled with pollution causing all living creatures to die and
sick. There are 4 main type of pollution: Air pollution, Water pollution, Noise
pollution and radiation pollution. Most pollution are caused by human and nature
but mostly human. Pollution has been a very big problem since human created
machines.
Types of pollution:
Air pollution: are pollutions that are related to air.
Water pollution; are pollutions that are related to water.
Noise Pollution: are pollutions that are related to noise.
Radiation Pollution: are pollutions that are related to radiation.
The effects of pollutions are:

Acid rain by when the clouds starts to rain, the drops of water fall and
hit all the toxics in the air it will form acid then land. Acid rain is very
harmful because it will damage the water which sea animals live in and
the trees will suck in all the toxics and die, this also can harm human
not physically but will affect their health.
Global on warming because the all chemicals in the atmosphere will
make an Ozone hole and cause Antarctica/North Pole and icebergs to
melt and that will take away habitats from animals that lives there.
Also Ozone holes can allow excessive ultra violet radiation on to earth
causing all living creatures to disease or deaths.
Ocean litter because people are littering plastics and it will end up in
the ocean. Also the containers that falls from ships, illegal toxic dumps
and oil spills, land mines and bombs causing the animals under water
to eat it but cant digest
Air/water pollution can cause lots of different disease to human and
animals like; cancer, heart diseases, headaches, dizzy, pink eye,
damage to DNA or maybe deaths.
Noise pollution make wild lives confused and annoyed from all the
noises from human activities.

save money up to a great extent.

Problems
How do humans affect the food chain?
We are responsible for killing wild animals. You may not know but one
animal can affect lots of different animals in usually in a bad way and only
sometimes good. Humans kill a lot of different species!!

Humans are similar to pig on the food chain

Humans affect the ecosystem by cutting down trees and polluting
the water
If one animal on the top of the food gets wipe out by a human bad
things would happen and the animals that it is linked to on the food
chain would graze all its food away and die of starvation.
