Welcome Happy Morning

VU 161

Welcome, happy morning! Age to age shall say,

Hell today is vanquished, heaven is won today:
Come then, True and Faithful, now fulfil your word,
This is your third morning: rise, O buried Lord!
*Passing of the Peace
*The Call to Worship:
Come, God of Life, come, Christ of salvation, come, Spirit of
peace, come appear to us once more, for it is good to be
together in unity with you; to be anointed by the
precious oil of your presence; to be washed with the
fallen dew of your blessing. Come abide with and within
us this day. AMEN!
*The Opening Prayer:
Ever-present God, we rejoice this day in the amazing truth of
Easter. You have acted; you have come to us; you are with
us. Evil and death have been overcome and Christ is risen.
2

Help us to recognize and be responsive to the presence

of our risen Lord among us, ministering to us, the
church which bears his name, touching our distress
with peace and our discouragement with hope. Accept
now our praise and worship as expression of our
gratitude for such wondrous gifts of grace, praying his
prayer . . .
Our Father, who art in heaven...

We Respond to Gods Word

Offering Invitation
*Response: Your Work O God Needs Many Hands

VU 537

Your work, O God, needs many hands to help you

everywhere, and some there are who cannot serve unless our
gifts we share.
Because we love you and your work, our offering now we
make; be pleased to use it as your own, we ask for Jesus
sake.

*The Prayer of Dedication:

These our gifts, are a sign of our confidence in the risen
Jesus. They are our testament to the belief that all are
included in God's reign of justice and we send them
unconditionally into the world to do good. AMEN!
Prayers of the People
*Hymn:

Blest Be the Tie That Binds

VU 602

*Commissioning & Blessing

*Sung Blessing: Go Now in Peace
Go now in peace, never be afraid,
God will go with you each hour of everyday.
Go now in faith, steadfast, strong and true.
Know he will guide you in all you do.
Go now in love and show you believe,
Reach out to others so all the world can see.
God will be there watching from above,
Go now in peace, in faith and in love.

our FOOD BANKS over the summer months. Cans of tuna,

church will have a box or a basket to collect the items. Lets
see if we can break the record again this year! See poster
on your church bulletin board.
Have you fed the fish basket today?

Minutes for Mission

April 12

Community and Justice Work

Brunswick Street Mission

On Tuesdays and Thursdays, Agar Smith sits down at his desk in
Halifaxs Brunswick Street Mission and wonders who will come
through the door that day. Maybe it will be someone who cant pay
their electrical bill after a long winter, someone who needs bus
fare to get to a job interview, someone who is baffled by a
government letter they cant read, or a woman and her children
fleeing abuse.
Part counsellor, part friend, and part firm parent, Agar is the face
of Brunswick Streets Benevolent Fund. Its one of many programs
at Brunswick Street, and last year it received over 700 requests
for help. Less than 10 percent of the people actually needed
money; the rest were looking for help navigating the social service
and education systems, or with sorting out differences with
landlords and even neighbours.
Dwayne was 30 when he walked into Brunswick Street. He had
dropped out of school decades before, drifted across the country
looking for work, and finally ended up back in Halifax. With Agars
help, he found a place to live and mended bridges with some
people. Dwayne began attending community college to gain his
high school equivalency and intends to learn a trade after that.
The money for the Benevolent Fund comes from individuals and
local churches, but the funding for Brunswick Streets operations
and salaries comes from Mission and Service. As a part of
Brunswick Street Missions family of programs, the Benevolent
Fund can help people access what they need quickly and
effectively for a better future. Please continue to give so
Brunswick Street Mission can continue to invest in positive
change.

Mighty and tender God, our gifts to M&S help your church
to do justice, love kindness, and walk humbly with you.
