Statement of Purpose

Having enjoyed scientific related courses, I feel the need to further my credentials by
applying to graduate school. My major, which is food science, gives me the ability to learn more
about the scientific career that I will be entering. To achieve my future goals, I feel that an
important step is entering into graduate school, so I can develop my skills and fulfill my areas of
interest. I wish to enroll into a graduate school that will help me further develop as a food
scientist
Throughout my college years as an undergraduate, I solemnly feel that I have prepped
myself to partake in graduate school. The main preparation tool was the subject of chemistry.
Over the years, I feel that I have had many inspirations that have influenced me to pursue a
career relating to the field of science. My most effective work is when I volunteered at the local
health and nutrition department. My main job was to record results based on the internal health
of various patients who were diagnosed with food poison. I also had to run tests if the patients
results came back abnormal to see what were the causes of food poisoning. I then began to
research the topic of becoming a food scientist.
Currently, I am searching for internships pertaining to the field of my study. I have had
conversations with the professors of my alumni school, in order to gain more knowledge on my
field of study. One of my inspirations comes from my former advisor, Dr. Stone. Stone is one
who knows the importance of entering graduate school and how it will benefit me and my career.

He also has been supervising my progress, which will more than likely ensure me that I am on
the correct path to becoming a food scientist.
Also, I have gained further experience by having the opportunity to intern at the Health
and Wellness Center for my local city. My most common demonstrations focuses were on
topics such as nutrients in food, food and your senses, and modern cuisine. From this experience
and training, I learned key aspects of the food science field. Also, I learned different ways to
research a variety of foods in order to ensure that they were safe and harmless.
In the past, I also completed various works of community service to that could relate to
my academic field of study, food science. As a volunteer for a local fast food restaurant, I
experienced customers who were displeased with the cleanliness of particular foods. I began to
note how the foods would make the customers feel sick. Going into a deeper investigation, I
came to the conclusion that certain foods that are not cooked to a certain degree can cause a
person to become ill. Currently, I am seeking further academic courses to continue my education
as a food scientist. With the help of my fellow peers and some advisors, I have certainly
developed a better understanding of the tasks of a food scientist.
