In order to be an effective teacher, its important to understand what
contributes to behaviors in the classroom so that effective classroom
management can take place . One of the studies focused on the origin and
persistence of adolescent behaviors in the classroom. The behaviors were
tardiness, inattentiveness, disruptiveness, homework completion and
absenteeism. The purpose of the study was to identify how non-cognitive
skills could be changed through classroom management, mentoring or other
interventions.
Reflect on the effects of this assignment on your future teaching. What will be
different because of the work you did?
These studies helped me to have a better understanding of factors that
contribute to classroom behaviors. There are some key components to
consider for effective classroom management. Two main points were the

importance of teachers knowing who their students are their unique qualities
and not to treat all the students the same.
Reflect on your understanding of the standard addressed by this assignment,
and on how the assignment will help your teaching in the area of that
standard.
Effective classroom management, specifically in a adolescence, can have a
major impact on achievement levels. It is up to me to create a learning
environment to encourage positive behaviors. I also need to make sure my
students understand what behaviors are not acceptable and why. One method
is to set the rules for the classroom with students so that they can take
ownership and to be consistent in following them.
