TWS 7 Instructional Decision Making

During my unit there were mini assignments that I used to communicate with
the students. After each lesson in the unit I invited the students to the carpet
and discussed what we had learned for that lesson. Also at the beginning of
each lesson, as a class we would answer questions from the previous lesson.
This allowed me to see if the information was being retained. It also
presented the opportunity for students to ask questions that they may have
been confused on. I often from students opened the floor for students
questions.
When students worked individually at their desk I would often conference
with them. During conferences students had the chance to show me their
work and knowledge on shapes. By working one on one with the students
built a relationship with me. They had the chance to ask the questions that
they were shy to ask in a whole group session. As I conferenced I would take
notes on what students knew and what they need extra help with. This
helped me with planning out the next lesson in my unit on shapes.
Using assessments was another way I received feedback for the lesson. The
pre and posttest were very similar. This was to make sure that there was
growth. With the test being very similar the materials the same and I could
clearly see rather or not there was growth from the lessons in the unit. The
formative assessment allowed me to see that the students were learning and
what they had learned. It also presented me with information that assisted
me in planning and or elaboration. After seeing the pre-test I was able to tell

the student were familiar with the information on shapes. This meant that I
could elaborate more in the lesson. I was able to take lesson further and
expand their knowledge not limiting them to useless information. The
informative assessment are used to see if students are able to apply the
knowledge to real world situation. If at any time the assessments were not
successful, I would re- adjust the lesson. I would spend more time on what
students need and approach it in a different way.
