Lesson 10

A Story Of Redemption (Exodus 3-14)

Introduction
Redemption is the story of all Bible stories. It means someone has been in bondage. It means a ransom
has to be paid. It means eventually some held hostage finally enjoys freedom because of anothers great
sacrifice. This story is re-told over & over again...in both the O.T. & N.T. Of course, the greatest version
of it is the story of Jesus Christ and His death & resurrection. Israels redemption serves as a type.
Read the story and be prepared to answer the following questions.
1) What do we learn about God and the suffering of His people? (3:7-9) What instructions did God
have for Moses? (3:10)

2) How did Moses react? (3:11-14; 4:1-13) What do we learn from Acts 7:22 that helps clarify some
of Moses statements to God?

3) How did God end this exchange with Moses? (4:14-17)

4) What setback shook Moses confidence? (5:1-19) How did the people react? (5:20-21)

5) How did Moses react? (5:22-23) What was Gods reassurance? (6:1; cp. 3:19-20)

Lesson 10
6) How did God connect the Israelites bondage and the covenant promises He previously made to
Abraham? (6:5-8)

7) What does God tell Moses in 7:3? Comparing this to 7:22-23 and 8:15, harmonize all these
passages together. Thought question: consider Acts 16:14 as a parallel thought and comment
on how all these passages should be understood.

8) List all the plagues in order. (7:17 11:8) Research question: considering 12:12, find out what
you can re: how these plagues were in reality Gods judgments against Egypts idols.

9) What was the real purpose for these plagues? (9:13-17)

10) Re: the 9th plague (darkness), what did Moses demonstrate to Pharaoh? (10:21-26) How was
this different from his earlier actions before God in Ex. 3-4?
