Objectives:
The children will develop literacy skills by listening to the book, Chicka Chicka Boom
Boom.

The children will recognize the first letter of their first name by gluing on the letter to the
tree and talking about the letter.

The children will gain art skills by using finger paint (on their hand and forearm) to
create a palm tree.

The children will enhance fine motor skills by gluing on the first letter of their first name
on the tree.
o Domain: Physical Development and Health
o Element: Fine Motor Skills
Materials:
Book, Chicka Chicka Boom Boom
Chicka Chicka Boom Boom tree
Chicka Chicka Boom Boom Velcro letters
Green finger paint
Brown finger paint
18 white pieces of construction paper
3 paint brushes
6 paper bowls
Assorted letters (one of each childs first letter of first name)
Each name of the children on sheets of paper
Procedure:
A. Motivation
1. I will show each child their name.
2. I will show the children that there are letters in their name.

Conclusion:
I will have children make their own palm trees. The teacher will paint on the brown finger paint
on the forearm and the green finger paint onto the hand. The children will place their hand on to
the paper. The children will then place a knuckle in the brown pain to make the coconuts. The
children will then place the first letter of their first name on the paper.
Transition:
I will have the children go to the next activity by the first letter of their first name.
